WILD CORNEL TREE (CORNUS MAS)

The legend, the wood, the stick.

COLOR ALCHEMY

YELLOW

From the barberry root, the berberine dissolves in distilled water preferably. Tannin is used as the color developer on the hiking stick. The best results when hot job. Berberine is antiseptic and fluorescent. Native americans speaks the yellow a special spiritual meaning.

EBONY

Ebonizing is pretty easy. Important are porcelain vessels, gloves and goggles. Anneal steel wool and cover with vinegar. Wait a few days for the iron to dissolve. Color developer is also tannin here. Apply the iron water and let it rest. On the surface forms a strong rust layer. After three days, wash off with water and horsetail.

ANTHRACITE

For a gray black, slightly translucent surface, it is enough ... only to apply iron vinegar. In the wood there is sufficient color developer available.

BROWN

The straw in the dung heap becomes brown by the ammonia. Irish Schillelaghs from blackthorn were taditionally put into the dung. For two years. Also clock pendulum were treated similarly. Additionally hanged in the smoke ... to harden. A household cleaner, ammonia ... the simpler solution. The procedure in a closed container is called smoking. The color tiff goes through the whole material. The smell evaporates. Of course, painting is also possible.

WALNUT

The color developer here is potash. The ancient Egyptians needed a chemical precursor for the mummies. Potassium bicarbonate. Dast is still a popular desiccant for sensitive medical devices today. When cooking, it creates potash. The black nutshells of the walnuts are also cooked.

There are two possibilities. First : apply color developer and stain at the same time. At many nodes then appears the very solid texture. The color gradient is then very fine and is similar to the coloring of Easter eggs with onion skins. The second option : both medium separately boil and apply with brush. As seen in this picture.

BONE

If they have a flawless wood they do not need to do anything. Pay close attention to clean clothes, tools and gloves. Work in a place you have never worked before. Clean brand new work records a must. Visually, the wood is like a part of a dinosaur skeleton. Very quaint. The knots and bumps on the outer surface are called muscles.

MAROON

Dragon Blood A powder from the resin of the dragon's blood tree can only be brought into the wooden with an accelerator. Here with smoking with ammonia.

LEOPARD

The burned pattern can only be produced in a slightly watered condition and constant cooling. The flame has to be very small. Keep burn points as far apart as possible. Similar to welding metal to avoid stress. Otherwise becomes the cornelian cherry to tear. Regardless of age.

OLD STYLE

Somewhat after the Thirty Years War, with the ban on cold weapons for students, the Ziegenhainer was born. There are only a few rare originals from collectors to visit. The most outstanding work was supplied by Dr. Dieter W. Banzhaf. The collector's magazine came formerly 70, - D Mark.

To get this look, it needs the underwater branding. However, with the support of so-called smoking water. The process is highly corrosive. Strong rubber gloves, gas mask and a fan in the back are necessary.

The smoking water must not be applied to dry wood. In this case, the fire follows the chloride ions very deeply into the wood. This method is interesting only because they can work with low temperature.

FRESHWATER MORAY

Black and yellow is burned with beeswax. Of course, every stick manufacturer had his own recipe. It is said, the wax visually fires the burners optical. However, three different fires are required. First in  freshwater, then in oil and the third with beeswax.

SIDE EFFECT

In living trees, the bark is not pierced by the worms. The worms do not like the tannin at all. The color developer is a natural protection. Only when the weather has diluted the tannins, the worm attacks.
